New York Immigration Laws

All residents can obtain a non-commercial driver's license regardless of immigration status. The DMV is prohibited from sharing license information with federal immigration authorities without a judicial warrant or court order.

Prohibits employers from threatening to contact immigration authorities or reporting an employee's suspected immigration status as a form of retaliation. All labor protections apply regardless of immigration status.

Allows undocumented students who attended NY high schools to access state financial aid (TAP, Excelsior Scholarship) and 529 college savings programs on the same terms as citizens.

State executive orders prohibit state agencies from inquiring about or disclosing immigration status in most circumstances. NYC limits NYPD cooperation with federal immigration detainers absent a judicial warrant and provides funded legal representation for immigrants in deportation proceedings.
